Mission

My art springs from images and sounds gathered from visionary experiences. I transform these dreams into large-scale, site-specific, theatrical "Wonders." My Wonders meet the audience where they are and transport them into living poetic worlds intended to inspire play, dreaming, and friendliness, while awakening a spirit of endless possibility.

These site-based, participatory outdoor performances are large in scale so as to awaken wonder in an audience accustomed to staring at tiny screens and inanimate boxes. The Wonders come to life through dozens of performers, huge mobile set pieces, larger-than-life costumes, and live music and dance. They embrace ideas of gift giving, passage, the heavens, innocence, family, and celebration. The pieces are deeply inspired by magical realism and speak the language of myth and fairy tale.

My work is influenced by my own operatic training and years living in southern India, as well as Frederick Law Olmsted's egalitarian transformations of public space, the visions and poetry of Hildegard von Bingen and William Blake, the grandeur of Ansel Adams and Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the audacity of Busby Berkeley, the heart and whimsy of Dr. Seuss, and the discoveries about human coordination and learning of Joseph Chilton Pearce and F. M. Alexander. These artists and thinkers all expanded the realm of human possibility, and my work celebrates this spirit.

I am devoted to creating free, living, joyful experiences for public audiences that offer vivid infusions of whimsy and inspire hope and expansive thinking—that gifts can spring forth on the streets and in our lives, that it is possible to fill the air with love through the power of our intent. My hope is that the Wonders will feed the creative life of our community, helping to bring forth a New Renaissance.
